What
is the Potteries Outdoor Group?
Formerly known as the Potteries local
group of the YHA, we remain affiliated, but organise a wide range of activities,
both at weekends and on Tuesday evenings. While outdoor activities, and in particular
walking, form an important part of our programme, we also hold a variety of
other types of events, both indoors and out, including talks, slide shows, visits
to local places of interest, theatre and cinema trips, meals out, cycling trips,
and many others.
Perhaps the best way to see what we're about is to take a look at our
current programme
of weekend outdoor activities and Tuesday evening social events.
The group is open to all ages and
has a wide age range, mostly 20-something to 40-something.
What does it cost?
Membership costs £7.50 a year
with a charge of £1 for each event held in the clubroom. You pay £2.50
membership and 50p room charge if unwaged. The annual membership fee is not
required for your first two events. Visits to youth hostels no longer
require membership of the YHA, but non-
members pay a higher rate for stays.
Where do we meet?
Tuesday indoor meetings (see our
programme for dates) are held in our
clubroom in the Methodist School Rooms in Newcastle Town Centre. The main entrance
is in Merrial St (click for map),
directly opposite Newcastle Police Station. The building has two doors onto the street; the right one is the right-hand one - if it's locked, press the top right button on the intercom panel (for the upstairs small hall) and we can buzz you in. Once inside, go upstairs and
you'll find a welcome from us in our clubroom on the right.
How
do I join in? Or find out more?
Easy. Just call Lindsey, Sarah,
or any of the others listed below. Alternatively, send us a message via the form.
Or check with the event organiser of an event you're interested in, and just
turn up.
